Delete Tandem local storage

In certain instances, deleting Tandem local storage can reset Tandem if it gets into a weird state (can't log in, can't see windows, can't connect to anything etc.)

Mac:

quit Tandem

open Terminal

type rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Tandem  and press Enter

re-open Tandem

Windows:

C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Local\Tandem

Another option for Windows 10:

Will take you to the following folder to delete: %appdata%/Tandem/'Local Storage'

Improving call performance

If you are experiencing are experiencing latency, choppy audio, pixelated video or having a hard time staying connected to a video call, it may be due to poor wifi or network conditions.

Here are a few practical compromises you can take in real-time to improve call performance. These same steps will also help reduce CPU.

Turn off your video

This reduces the number of streams that need to be processed and may help you continue to listen and speak during the call more easily.

Hide videos

Click on the three dots in the call box, and select hide videos. This may help you continue to listen and speak.

Energy saver mode

Also found under the three dots in the call box. This makes the video streams for the entire call low-res for everyone on the call so it will impact the experience for everyone but can help you stay connected.

Stop screensharing and share a link instead

When you or a teammate shares their screen on Tandem it adds another video stream to the call. If you're looking at a page together, sharing that link and viewing it independently on your computers may help.

Work App Sharing explained

Tandem offers users two settings to give their team visibility into what they're actively working on.

Both settings only pertain to work-related apps. Other web apps and sites you might visit throughout the day are never surfaced, regardless of how you have these settings configured.

Let my teammates know what I'm up to

This setting allows teammates who have Tandem open to see the icon of the work app you're actively working in. Only the icon and app name (ie: Google Docs) are made visible.

The purpose of this setting is to provide a helpful cue to your teammates about whether or not you might be open to chatting, collaborating, or are likely in a deep work mode.

Get on the same page
This setting only pertains to active meetings. In addition to surfacing your app icon, it also allows your teammates to see the URL and title of the page you're on. They can click to join you on that page, provided they have proper permissions to access that page in the specific work app.

The purpose of this setting is to make calls more efficient. Since teammates are often working from shared apps in a call, instead of pausing the conversation to ask for a link, your teammate can just click to go to your page (and you'll receive a notification when they do so.)

This setting, in addition to your ability to share your screen or request the screen of your teammate are designed to give you and your teammates flexibility with how you collaborate.

Side Conversations

Hover over a teammate while in a meeting to break out into a side conversation. Pro tip: If you're quick, you can "pull aside" multiple team members. When they accept the desktop notification, you'll all join a new conversation.
